John's family lived at "Warragamba" Cox's River. He was educated at Cox's River Public School. His occupation was Farm Labourer when he enlisted at Picton January 1916 and served in the 33rd Battalion A.I.F.

He departed Sydney on the 'Kyarra' 3 June 1916 and arrived in France via England November 1916.

Private John Lewis KERSWELL was killed in action at Messines Ridge, Belgium on 7 Jun 1917 age 19.
